Summary

Michiel van Drunen has been employed at the Institute for Environmental Studies in Amsterdam since January 1996. Most work deals with making environmental information transparent for decision makers, especially in the field of climate change impacts and adaptation.

Past research and consultancy activities include: supporting countries in Netherlands Climate Change Studies Assistance Programme (Bolivia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia), spatial conflicts related to the Betuwe line, development of a decision support system for soil remediation, sustainability indicators for the Amazonia region, measuring environmental performance of industries, socio-economic scenarios for climate assessments and external costs of meat production.

In 2006-2007 and from 2010 onwards he has been a member of the scientific editorial staff of the Platform for Communication on Climate Change (PCCC). In addition, he was responsible for most of IVM’s teaching activities from 2002 until 2008.

Expertise

Decision support, life cycle analysis, climate change: impacts, vulnerability assessments, adaptation, greenhouse gas inventories and socio-economic scenarios.
