Summary

Brenden Jongman has been employed at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) since January 2011. He is researcher and PhD candidate within the Knowledge for Climate and ENHANCE FP7 research programmes. Brenden’s main research interests lie with the economic and humanitarian impacts of natural hazards and the implications for international financing and development. Brenden’s PhD thesis, which he expects to defend late 2014, focuses on the assessment of flood risk impacts and adaptation options on national to global scales, using a combination of spatial analysis, hydrology and economics. His work has been published in leading journals, including Global Environmental Change and Nature Climate Change.

Brenden is also guest researcher at the European Commission’s Joint Research Center, and has acted as invited speaker at, amongst others, MIT, Yale University, the World Bank and several international conferences. His teaching experience includes the coordination of a course on water governance.

Brenden holds a BSc in Earth Science and Economics from VU University and an MSc in Management Science from London Business School.
