Dr. N.M. van der Grijp

Summary

Nicolien van der Grijp is a senior researcher of the Department of Environmental Policy Analysis of the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM). Her research interests are related to environmental law and policy at the international, EU and national level. She is specialised in applying social scientific research methods to investigate how legal instruments are implemented in practice. She has extensive experience in doing contract research for international organisations, the European Commission, and the Dutch government. In 2008, she finalised her dissertation on the regulation of pesticide risks, in which she focused on state and non-state actor approaches to risk management from the perspective of legal pluralism. In 2010, she published a book, together with professor Joyeeta Gupta, at Cambridge University Press, titled “Mainstreaming Climate Change in Development Cooperation: Theory, Practice and Implications for the European Union”. She is currently working on an EU project about forest governance (REDD-ALERT) and an ESPON project about governance arrangements for regional seas (ESaTDOR).
