Summary

Wouter Botzen is Assistant Professor at the Department of Environmental Economics, Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM), VU University Amsterdam. He obtained his PhD degree in economics (cum laude) for his thesis on the economics of insurance against climate change. He won the prestigious Junior Societal Impact Award of the VU University in 2010. Wouter is mainly involved in teaching the Master’s course Environmental Economics provided by the institute. With a research grant of NWO (Veni scholarship) he conducts research on individual behaviour under low-probability high-impact climate change scenarios. Wouter is a regular visitor of the Ecological Economics group of the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona. His main research interests are behavioural economics, climate change economics, flood risk management, natural disaster insurance and non-market valuation.
