• 1992: Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, the Netherlands Master’s degree in chemistry, major field analytical chemistry, molecular toxicology.
• 1992-1997: Leiden/Amsterdam Center for Drug Research, University of Leiden, Leiden, the Netherlands. Ph.D. in analytical chemistry. Research on the development of the coupling of capillary electrophoresis to mass spectrometry. Method development for the analysis of drugs and proteins as well as the design of instrumental devices for the coupling of both techniques were of primary concern.

Professional employment history

• 2000-present: Researcher environmental analytical chemistry at the Institute for Environmental Studies, the Netherlands. Main interests are the implementation of novel analytical techniques such as liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry and Toxicity Identity Evaluation (TIE) studies
• 1998-2000: Researcher analytical chemistry at OctoPlus B.V., the Netherlands, a contract research organisation in the field of drug development and formulation. Focus on the development of analytical techniques for pharmaceutical purposes and the implementation of liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry
