Summary

Joantine van Esterik is a PhD student working on the project OBELIX. She has studied Biomedical Sciences at the Radboud University in Nijmegen and her majors were Toxicology and Pathobiology. For her PhD project she works partly at the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). There she designs experimental studies to provide observational and mechanistic evidence to support epidemiological associations between exposure to major endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) in food and development of obesity later in life. In in vivo studies, mice will be exposed to representative EDCs. Furthermore, in in vitro studies, epigenetic and differentiation mechanisms will be studied by differentiating embryonic stem cells into adipocytes and neurons. She is also in training to become a registered toxicologist.
