- PhD researcher, Landscape change and cultural heritage
Koen has been employed at the Environmental Geography Group, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, since July 2014 as a PhD researcher focusing on landscape changes and cultural heritage on rural landscapes. Koen is currently working in the European Hercules project: ‘Sustainable Futures for Europe's Heritage in Cultural Landscapes: Tools for understanding, managing, and protecting landscape functions and values’.
Koen has a background in social sciences and completed an MSc in Urban Studies at the University of Amsterdam and a BSc in human geography at the same university. Koen’s focus is on quantitative analyses and mapping of environmental problems, with an emphasis on the cultural value of ecosystems.
