- PhD researcher
Karina Zelaya has been doing her PhD studies at the Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, since February 2014, under supervision of Prof. dr. P.H. Verburg and Dr. J. van Vliet. Her research is focusing on land system change modelling as input of rural land planning and it is part of INTA national research “Natural Resource, Environmental Management and Ecoregions – Rural Land Planning”. This INTA project aims at developing strategic information and tools for helping decision makers at different spatial scales.
Karina is also a researcher at the National Institute of Agricultural Technologic (INTA) and she was the leader of Geomatic group at Balcarce Agricultural Experimental Station – INTA up to 2013, when she resigned her position for doing her PhD study. As leader of Geomatic Group she made agreements with Geographic National Institute (IGN) for the establishment of a GNSS Antenna for improving the practice of precision agriculture, with the National Commission for Space Research (CONAE) for free access to satellite information with the government of Balcarce department in Buenos Aires province for developing tools for rural land planning.
