Boris van Zanten has been employed at the IVM since February 2012. He is a PhD student at the Spatial Analysis and Decision Support department under supervision of Peter Verburg en Pieter van Beukering. In the years to come, Boris will work on the CLAIM project. This EU project aims at supporting the role of the European common agricultural policy in landscape valorisation. Within the CLAIM project, he will conduct research on improving ecosystem services valuation methodology and gaining insight in the relations between ecosystem functions.
With a background in human geography and environmental sciences, Boris has a strong interest in multidisciplininary research regarding spatial aspects of both natural and social sciences. He graduated from the MSc programme Environment and Resource Management with a thesis on the coastal protection value of coral reef ecosystems in the United States Virgin Islands.
