PhD researcher

Lars de Ruig is a PhD student at the department of Water and Climate Risk of the IVM Institute for Environmental Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He has a background in Earth Sciences and Economics at the VU University of Amsterdam, with a particular interest for interdisciplinary research. Furthermore, he is specialized in flood risk management and modelling. His master thesis focused on coastal vulnerabilities, flood risk modelling and the economic evaluation of potential coastal flood adaptation measures including a case study of Los Angeles County, in collaboration with USC Sea Grant.

As a PhD researcher, Lars de Ruig will be working with Agent-Based and flood risk, focussing on the interactions between agents that influence flood risk on different scale levels. The main aims are to overcome methodological limitations of upscaling Agent-Based models and to gain insights into the interaction of flood adaptation related agents.
