Summary

Jisun Hwang is a PhD researcher at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her research focuses on analysing the governance innovation and institutional change in global climate governance post Paris. She is particularly interested in the issues involving the emergence of new policy fields (Global Climate Action and mandated events), governance innovation (alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and developing low emissions development strategies), and institutional change (translating the Paris Agreement into action by transitioning from a negotiations mode to an implementation mode).

Before joining the IVM, Jisun worked at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change secretariat in Bonn, Germany, supporting the Presidency of the UN Climate Change Conference and the Bureau. Working with the French Presidency in the lead up to and during the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris in 2015, she developed her research interest in the nexus between the UNFCCC multilateral process and the institutional change in global climate governance post Paris.

Jisun is an alumnus of the Oxford Adaptation Academy, class of 2016, and holds a Master’s degree from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and a Bachelor’s degree from Ewha Womans University.
