Tools for Climate Proof Planning; how to prepare the Netherlands for a changing climate?
Florrie de Pater has produced an innovative book 'Making space for Climate: handbook for a climate proof spatial planning', one of the products of the Research Programme Space for Climate.
The book is launched on the 1st of December at the final conference 'Knooppunt Klimaat'. The book contains practical tools for analysing and managing climate change impacts and adaptation in a range of sector, including agriculture, water management and spatial planning. Cases show that investing now in adaptation to climate change leads to billions of avoided costs in the future. For example: a study in deepest polder of the Netherlands, the Zuidplas, (almost 7 meters under sea level) showed that it is safe to build 30.000 houses.
