More information
Members of our group participate in two dozen scientific steering committees and boards of global and national research programmes, including several core projects and programmes under the Earth System Science Partnership (e.g., Earth System Governance Project, Global Water System Project, or START). Our researchers have also been invited to leading positions in several global assessment institutions (e.g., IPCC, Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, UNEP’s Global Environmental Outlook, or UNEP Joint Foresight Process), are frequently invited to PhD defences abroad, or sit on the board of partner institutes, such as IIASA. Members of the department are editors-in-chief of three international journals (Gupta, International Environmental Agreements; Etty, Transnational Environmental Law; Boersema, Journal of Integrative Environmental Sciences), associate editors of two other outlets (Biermann and Huitema, Ecology and Society; van Asselt, Carbon and Climate Law Review), editors of book series (Biermann, Earth System Governance series with MIT Press), and members of the boards of a number of other journals.
The international reputation of the team is also reflected in many invitations to research visits abroad, including (since 2007) at the universities of Cambridge, East Anglia, Michigan, Oxford, Tokyo and Yale, the TERI Institute in Delhi, the Chinese University of Political Science and Law, the American University in Washington DC, Renmin University in Beijing, Science Po in Bordeaux, and the London School of Economics. We also remain attractive for short- and long-term visiting researchers at all levels from about a dozen countries in recent years, as well as for prominent speakers in our Environmental Policy Speakers Series.
